The Product: Diaper Pail
Unless you plan on running to the garage every time you change a diaper,
than a diaper pail is a must have for new parents. It helps keep those dirty diapers contained until you are ready to take out the trash.
Recommendation: Diaper Genie Review
I'll admit, I wasn't a huge fan of the original Diaper Genie as it had a lot of flaws. However the new Diaper Genie 2 is improved in almost every way. The design is a lot sleeker, but what's most improved is how you break off the bag once it's full. In the old model, you had to use this poorly designed twisting cutter, however with the new Diaper Genie 2, you pop off the top and use a simple cutter that's inside to break off the string of bags. There is also a much easier "trap door" seal that you push the diaper through when you open the top; the old model requuired you to twist each time to create the seal. This also created a sausage like string of dirty diapers when you went to remove them. Finally, although it still uses propriatry bags, its so much easier to use that they may be worth the premium.
The Genie II makes it pretty easy to dispose of diapers and contains odor well, but you will still want to change the bags regularly. Off all the diaper bins we have had over the years, this one has been the most effective. The design comes pre assembled and allows for easy removal of the dirty diapers(they don’t touch the pail).
Devil's Advocate:
The Diaper Genie still requires you to purchase proprietary bags, which run about $6 -$8 a pack. If is this isn't something you are keen on, you should consider the Diaper Champ instead.
