Lynx L42 Series 42-Inch Gas Grill
Lynx L42 Series 42-Inch Gas Grill
  • Great for large group cooking
  • Cast brass burners retain heat extremely well
  • Comes with choice of gas or propane, a smoker box, and a rotisserie burner
  • Accessories such as side burners and drawers are very pricey

A formidable opponent if you're a steak, Lynx's L42 series of 42-inch free standing and built-in grills will please any crowd. As the larger of Lynx’s two medium sized grills, the L42 series grills have an output of 75,000 BTUs like the 36-inch model but spread over an expansive 855 square inches of primary and 345 square inches of secondary cooking space. There is no question that the Lynx 42-inch grill is expensive, but for the discerning grillmaster the money is worth it, as it delivers a sleek design, incredible durability, a raft of features and an overall top-of-the-line cooking experience.

Like the other models in the Lynx grill line, the L42 series models are serious about cooking meat the right way. You can tell this even from the burners themselves, which are made from solid cast brass rather than the hollow steel burners used by almost every other grill. Steel burners retain heat poorly and can cool quite quickly, especially on a windy day, resulting in uneven cooking. Lynx’s solid brass burners retain heat far better, and at the very high heat necessary for good grilling they radiate extremely even and consistent heat, making hollow steel burners seem like child’s play in comparison. These burners are complemented by ceramic briquettes, which are better than the corrugated steel briquettes found in other grills, and a patented grill hood design, both of which help make the Lynx 42-inch grills cook perfectly even in wind and rain. When this fundamentally different approach to grilling is combined with a choice of gas or propane, a multi-speed dual-position rotisserie burner, a large removable smoker box, and an optional Pro-Sear burner that finishes off steakhouse-quality meat, the Lynx 42-inch grill is a dream come true for outdoor chefs who like to host gatherings and cook for groups.

Other Lynx Grills:

If a 42-inch grill is too big for you, or you just don’t want to spend quite so much money, the Lynx 27-inch, 30-inch and 36-inch grills are all excellent and high-quality as well. On the other hand, if you cook for large groups often and the L42 series grills aren’t big enough, check out the Bobby’s Best review of the mother-of-all-grills, the huge Lynx 54-inch model. Devil's Advocate:

While the Lynx 42-inch grill is worth its cost, accessories such as side burners and drawers are also expensive, which can make a completely outfitted grill cost $7,500 or more.
