The Product: Photo Printer
Inkjet printers seem to be slowly catching-up to the quality of laser
technology. Most are now capable of producing high quality photos in
addition to over twenty black and white pages per minute.
Recommendation: Canon
Pixima iP4200 Photo Printer
Canon has produced a very affordable yet high quality printer with the
PIXMA iP4200. It has rather impressive performance for a printer of its
size and price. Five-color printing can produce 29 B&W ppm, 19 Color
ppm and a 4-by-6 photo quality print in less than one minute.
One feature I like in particular that you often do not see on models this
size is the ability to print double sided without having to make any manual
adjustments. The iP4200 also features two paper trays, allowing for increased
paper storage. The iP2400 connects to both Macs and PCs via USB and also
has a direct connection for printing from digital cameras. For the price
and functionality, the iP4200 is hard to beat.
Devil's Advocate:
The two shortcomings of the iP4200 are ink replacement and networking.
As with most printers currently on the market, ink cartridges do not
come cheap and seem to get smaller and smaller with each new model. The
iP4200 needs replacement around every three months with average use.
