The Product: Cordless Phone
With wireless networks becoming common in most homes, it’s a good
idea to get a new cordless phone that operates on a different frequency.
Recommendation: AT&T
5840 Cordless Phone
The AT&T 5.8 GHz digital cordless phone is a good all around performer
and great for homes with wireless internet. It comes standard with most
features one would expect from a digital cordless phone such as a digital
answering machine (three mailboxes), speakerphone, caller ID/call waiting,
and a 50 name built-in address book. I find it much easier to retrieve
your messages via a physical answering machine than having to call in for
voicemail.
Another key feature of the 5840 is the ability to add additional handsets.
A total of six additional units can be used, all of which allow for calls
to be transferred as well as intercom calls to be made between handsets,
essentially giving you a home intercom system.
The AT&T 5840 provides very good sound quality even when far away from
the base. The speakerphone is also very clear. In terms of design, the
5840 has a metallic finish with black trim and blue LED accents. The design
is pretty sleek and modern, not typical of the older AT&T phones which
were mostly white and blue.
Devil's Advocate:
The one issue I had with the 5840 handset was with the way it felt when
I held it on my shoulder, it could use a little more curve to it.
