Purists will tell you that there is no substitute for charcoal. There’s also no substitute for Weber, which pretty much invented this category with its popular kettle grills. These grills are easy to use and easy to clean.
The One Touch Gold is the latest incarnation of Weber’s original kettle grill. The 18½-inch-diameter grill is perfect for an apartment or small gatherings, it is easy to transport with all-weather crack-proof wheels, has glass reinforced nylon handles and is perfect for grilling on the beach. The larger 22½-inch model is big enough for a dozen burgers, making it ideal for parties with all of your family and friends. Weber One Touch Gold grills have hinged grates on the side so you can add coals while you are still cooking, which is helpful when you are slow-cooking large pieces of meat. They are also equipped with large capacity ash-catcher below the One-Touch cleaning system, which makes sifting and cleaning ashes out of the grill quick and painless—you won’t have to get your hands dirty at all. It would be nice if Weber included a built in thermometer. It’s hard to know when you need to add coals if you don’t see the temperature falling. The major features that the Gold models have over the Weber One Touch Silver Grill is the removable ash catcher and the third glass-reinforced nylon handle.
This grill has been around for about a half a century in its current form and will probably last 25 years, so you know what you are getting. I strongly recommend buying the custom Weber Premium Cover and using it on regular basis (especially during the winter) to prolong the life of your grill, however Webers do come with a 10-year limited warranty.
Weber One-Touch Gold Models and Variations
The standard 18½-inch One-Touch Gold charcoal grill is available in Black (451001), while the larger 22½-inch model is available in Black (751001), Dark Blue (758001) and Green (757001).
If you are willing to shell out the extra bucks, I would definitely recommend going with the larger Weber One-Touch Gold 26.75-inch model. The built in thermometer and extra cooking space are well worth the price.
